I Wish Every Day Was Wednesday ...

You know, I really love this time of year - even when, like today, it is pouring with rain, the sky is positively gloomy, and you wonder what on earth you are going to do with yourself all day.  Some days are still chilly; some days are showery; but other days - like Wednesday - are glorious days.  Days where you can get outside in the garden all day in just a T-shirt;  the sun shines, warm but not too hot; a slight breeze; the garden glistens and welcomes.  Then after a full day of pottering, evening comes with a light rain, but you don't mind too much, because, that too, is welcome.  Seeds have been sown; plants re-potted and the garden is bursting into life; the borders are filling out and plans made.

And when I haven't been out in the garden, I have been reading; reading like a demon; three books a week - my goodness, that's a lot of reading, but the need to escape sometimes is overwhelming; and literature is as good a way as any.  The two things that make me happiest - gardening and reading, and I have been indulging in both to my hearts content.

  1. Elaine, I'm so glad that you have two lovely 'escapes' at this time; I share your love of reading and my garden, so I know how healing both can be.
From your photos I can see how pretty your garden is looking - those Spring flowers are so beautiful and looking so natural in your borders.
I hope the house is dried out now and that things are moving forward in getting it back to being a comfortable place to be. A nice hot Summer would be good, wouldn't it? xx

Your garden looks glorious, lovely photo's ...
Yes, I too was out in a short sleeved shirt earlier in the week but alas today it was umbrella weather except that I didn't have my umbrella and ended up looking rather bedraggled! Ah well, never mind ...

    Take Care

    All the best Jan

  13. Yes, we are kindred spirits. The garden looks lovely. Here we have rain today, which will turn to snow, spoiling everything, depending on how much we get and just how cold it gets. I am reading The Virgin Queen by Phillipa Gregory, who writes historical fiction about England's royalty. This book is about the love story between Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley. You now the story. The love part of it does not have a happy ending. I will finish the evening by watching the newest episode of Outlander. After having read all 8 books, I am enjoying the TV version which stays true to the story. Have you read the series yet? Very long, detailed books about a Clair, a time traveler and her Scot husband in the mid 18th century. Anyway, I could go on and on. Enjoy your weekend.

  22. Dear Elaine, I can understand both lovely ways of "escape": reading and gardening. I put it into quotation marks, because I think it is another way of being very much "here".
